I just had a riotous, informative, and somewhat troubling experience involving the elections that just occurred in Spain. Riotous because it was full of enraged yet wildly humorous professors yelling at the television, informative because between shouts and mildly vulgar jokes I was grasping the bases of the political tension in EspaƱa, and troubling because the more conservative party, the party that many of the professors I work with were holding out against, the Partido Popular, won.
I know much less about politics in Spain than I feel I should, but when I have experiences like this, I feel like a part of this country. A professor at my school invited me to his flat for an "election party". Everyone was super friendly and I didn't realize, but his version of "party" meant a 3 course meal and wine and the show I mentioned above. It was really quite cool and I wouldn't have wanted to witness the outcomes of these elections (even if I would have wished for different outcomes) in any other way.
Lately I've been completely out of the loop in American politics. It's really not good... but for some reason every time I see a clip surface or a news story circulate I just feel tired. I just don't feel like paying attention despite the obligations I do feel like I have.
Anyway, I had a really good weekend and I will talk about it soon.
Man!! I'm really curious to see how things change here. I need to go on wikipedia.
